We configure spectacle lenses around your measured working distances rather than selling you a tier. Nikon Lenswear is our principal supplier and Hoya our secondary; where another manufacturer has the better design for a particular job, we use theirs.

How thin it can be
Edge thickness is set by your prescription and the lens material, not by what you are willing to pay. The board shows what each material actually does for your numbers, before anything is ordered.

A tint is chosen against the light you are actually in — driving, on the water, or reading outside. Depth and gradient are decided from samples you hold, not from a swatch on a screen.

Where your eyes sit behind the frame decides where the lens has to be clear. Fitting height, wrap and tilt are measured on the frame you have chosen, in practice.

Nikon Lenswear is our principal lens supplier, giving us an exceptional range of technology — personalised progressives, advanced coatings, light-adaptive and polarised lenses. Hoya is our secondary supplier, and we will use another manufacturer where their design is the better answer for you. Our expertise lies in choosing whose technology fits your prescription and your frame, measuring it precisely, and making sure it performs properly in real life.

Lens questions, answered.
How do I know which lens is right for me?
Start with what you want your glasses to do better — screens and work, seeing at every distance, thinner lenses, or sun and glare. From there we look at your prescription, your day-to-day life and your current glasses, and recommend what genuinely suits you. You do not need to know the optical terminology; that is our job.
Are the most expensive lenses always the right ones?
No. A more advanced lens suits many people, but the right lens is the one configured around your prescription, frame and lifestyle — not automatically the dearest. We explain the differences honestly so you can choose what is right for you. Do you only fit Nikon lenses?
No. Nikon Lenswear is our principal lens supplier and Hoya our secondary one, and we will use another manufacturer where their design is the better answer for you. Our expertise is in choosing which part of that range is right for you, measuring it precisely and making sure it performs in real life. These lenses are available from other opticians too; choosing the manufacturer and every parameter around it is what is ours.
How long will my new lenses take?
It depends on the design, the material and any specialist requirements — a stock single-vision lens and an individually surfaced progressive are not the same job. We will confirm the timescale for your lenses at your appointment.
What if my new lenses do not feel right?
Bring them back and we will check them. Most problems are a fitting issue rather than a lens issue — the height the lens sits at, how the frame has moved, or which part you are looking through — and those are adjusted in the practice. If the design is genuinely wrong for you, we will say so.
How much is a second pair?
A complete second pair starts from £99 for single vision and £199 for a varifocal. The exact figure depends on the frame and the lens, and we will price it before you commit to anything.
